SaskPower recently released a notice warning residents of a scam that is currently going around the province. According to the release, people have been receiving emails advising of an issue processing their previous bill and requesting that customers log into their MySaskPower account to submit payment.
If clicked, the provided link directs customers to a fraudulent page that is not associated with SaskPower and asks for customers to input their credit card information.
SaskPower received notices from numerous customers that received the same email, which appeared to be from SaskPower. They are advising any customer who followed the link and submitted their credit card information to contact their credit card issuer immediately and to also call SaskPower Customer Service at 1-888-757-6939 to have their log-in information reset.
These days, scammers put in good effort to make these fraudulent emails look legitimate; however, it is important to know what to look for. Before clicking links provided in emails, be sure to check the “from” email address to ensure it is from the appropriate sender. Also, look for any spelling errors, misinformation or anything that seems “off” and, if ever in doubt, contact the sender directly to confirm if the email is legitimate or not.
