The Saskatoon Police Service is advising the public to be aware of a certain group of people selling imitation gold jewelry.

SPS has received nearly a dozen reports in the last week of people either being approached to buy the jewelry or having bought the jewelry and later discovering it is not real. The reports vary with women and men attempting to make the sale, sometimes on foot, other times from a vehicle with an Ontario licence plate. The incidents have occurred all over Saskatoon. In most cases, the victims have reported that the suspects said they need money to get home. Like many fraud cases, the suspects play on victim’s emotions, stressing urgency to make the sale and/or using threatening language. The male and female suspects are believed to be 40-50 years of age with heavy accents.

If you have any information on incidents similar to this, please contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
