Codie Prevost is a well-known Canadian country music artist who resides in Martensville with his wife and two young daughters. Having lived here for several years, he appreciates all there is to do as well as the many activities he and his family are able to partake in.
Growing up on a farm outside of Archerwill, Sk., he recalls family reunions where his mom and uncle would pull out the guitars and sing for hours. “I remember how the rest of the family enjoyed these moments and how it brought a smile to their faces and union to the group. That was the start of sneaking my mom’s guitar down to my bedroom to learn how to play my first three chords.”
He received his first guitar at 12 years of age and began to sing at the age of 14, where his passion led him to start writing his own songs and entering radio talent competitions.
After graduating from college, he put together a five year business plan, took out a loan from a group called ‘Community Futures,’ and headed for Nashville to record his debut album ‘The Road Ahead’. “Fast forward to now – I just released my 5th studio album ‘Radio’ – What a journey this has been,” he stated. Prevost received ‘Album of the Year’ for this last album at the 2019 Saskatchewan Country Music Awards, making a total of 28 SCMA awards.
This past year has affected Prevost as an artist, as live music has vanished due to COVID. He recently got some auto repair work done at Phobia Auto Care. “Owner Steve Cusson does great mechanical work and always is looking for new ways to show appreciation to his customers. He also mentioned that his wife loved my music, so we got brainstorming. I called him one day with the idea to host a social distancing shop concert and he loved it. I’m thrilled as I get to perform for a small group of people in person and Steve gets to show his customers more appreciation.”
They have also decided to help the Saskatoon Food Bank Organization by accepting non-perishable food items. “This organization also serves a wide area outside of Saskatoon and we know how important this organization is in feeding so many in need. There will also be pizza and drinks available for purchase that evening with all the funds being donated to the Saskatoon Food Bank,” Prevost stated.
When you get service work done at Phobia, your name will be entered in a draw to win 4 tickets to the concert. The date is Saturday, November 21 at Phobia Auto Care. The winners will be selected closer to that date.
In following COVID guidelines, the concert will be set up with six groups of four (maximum of 30 people) with each group being assigned a table which will be set up 8 to 10 feet apart. Upon carefully chosen entry, they will have hand sanitizing stations and masks available. Phobia staff will be distributing pizza and drinks that is purchased. When exiting the concert, tables will be assigned a number so they leave in order. All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed to ensure all safety measures are met for the concert.
