The Saskatchewan Soccer Association is currently looking to field U15 female and male teams in each of the nine sports districts to participate in the 2022 Saskatchewan Winter Games. This year is the first time that Futsal will be included in the Saskatchewan Games, which will be taking place from February 20-26. More than 1800 athletes, coaches and officials will be participating.
For those not familiar with Futsal, it is the only indoor soccer game that is officially recognized by FIFA. According to the Sask Soccer Association website, Futsal is “played 5-aside on a smaller surface (court) with a low bounce (futsal) ball that allows each player to make technical and tactical decisions in a productive environment that still encourages the physical and social elements associated with soccer.”
The nine Saskatchewan districts consist of Team Lakeland (Prince Albert, Nipawin, Melfort), Team Parkland Valley (Yorkton, Melville, Esterhazy), Team Regina, Team Rivers West (North Battleford, Lloydminster, Rosetown, Biggar, Kindersley, Meadow Lake), Team Saskatoon, Team South East (Weyburn, Estevan, Whitewood, Broadview), Team South West (Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Assiniboia, Maple Creek), Team North (La Ronge, Cumberland House, Pelican Narrows, La Loche, Stony Rapids) and Team Prairie Central (Warman, Humboldt, Kelvington, Fort Qu’Appelle, Outlook).
