The 15U Sask Five Giants AAA team has had quite the year. Martensville’s Brayden Barnett, Kleysen Gabruck, Josh Goldbeck, and Max Hildebrand helped make us this team with players from Dalmeny, Warman, Watrous, and Battleford. In league play the team lost in the semi-finals to the Saskatoon Brewers two games to one, the eventual Saskatoon league champions.

They carried on to Provincials, where the Giants defeated the South East A’s 7-1, lost to the Saskatoon Astros 6-4, and defeated Moose Jaw Canucks 18-1 in pool play. The Giants finished pool play in 4th place out of 12 teams and for the semi-final match once again had to play the Saskatoon Astros. The Giants defeated the Astros 10-1 in the semi-final, and then played the Regina White Sox for the Championship for the second consecutive year. The Giants defeated the White Sox 5-3 and defended the 15U AAA Provincial Championship earning them a chance at winning the Western Canadian title held in Lloydminster August 15-18.

In Westerns, the Giants defeated the Saskatchewan Host (North West Prairie Pirates) 16-11 to start off the tournament, then defeated Alberta (Red Deer Braves) 8-1, Manitoba 2 (North Winnipeg Pirates) 12-1, and Manitoba 1 (Carillon Sultans) 9-1. With a spot in the final guaranteed, the Giants lost to BC (Coquitlam Reds) 11-0 and finished pool play with a 4-1 record and first place in the pool as they headed to the 1vs2 Championship Final. A return engagement with the Host North West Prairie Pirates proved to be an exciting all Saskatchewan matchup with the Giants winning 11-4 to capture the Western Canada 15U AAA Baseball Championship. “As a coaching staff, it was fantastic to see the players/families rewarded for the hours of dedication that went in to practice, playing and the travel commitment by the families over the previous four months. A motto for the team all season was that we cannot win together if we don’t work together and the players worked hard together all season and the results were proof of that,” stated coach Mark Campbell.
