A great day of football and great fans came out to support the 13th annual Maddog Homecoming on Saturday despite the cold weather and snow. Our hometown Maddogs played host to the Prince Albert River Riders as the Peewees opened things up at 1:00. Patti Rowley, our “voice of the Maddogs”, opened the ceremonies as she announced the starting line-ups as Marty Maddog cheered the players onto the field. Deputy Mayor Tyson Chillog was at midfield to throw out the first pass to Maddog player Moe Norsten and the game was officially started.

The Peewee Maddogs, coached by Travis Urschel, were first on the board scoring on their first series. They never looked back and played well both offensively and defensively for the win. The Bantam Maddog team, coached by Grant Currie, hit the field at 3:15. They were also fired up and were first to hit the scoreboard bringing home the 30-6 win. It was a great day for the Maddogs.

The highlights of the day were the arrivals of the Roughrider Cheerleaders and Rider Alumni Chris Getzlaf. Marty Maddog got the crowd cheering for their Maddog teams as fans were treated to gift cards from Mr. Mike’s. Rider Chris Getzlaf, was kept busy signing autographs for most of the day. Members from the Huskie Football team as well as the Hilltops were also on hand to sign autographs during the games.

After the Peewee game, the Maddog flag players hit the field, under the guidance of the flag coordinator Dave Dumont and played a series of intersquad games against each other. Getzlaf and the Hilltops and Huskies helped coach the Flag players as Marty Maddog was key in providing some good coverage for his team.

This year the Rawlco Radio Street Squad made an appearance on behalf of C95, CKOM and 102 FM. The gals had free draws and give-aways throughout the day. They also had a fun football toss game for the kids to try. There was face painting for the kids provided by Martensville High School students while the football fans enjoyed the games. Canalta Hotel was on hand to host their Frisbee Toss that they sponsored between games.
