Well my first round predictions for the CFL Playoffs were both right! The Riders and RedBlacks both came out firing with each team scoring a TD before the first quarter was even five minutes in. After that though it was all Saskatchewan, taking a 21-8 lead into the half. Despite Trevor Harris throwing for 457 yards and two TD’s and setting a CFL playoff record with 60 pass attempts, the Riders came out on top 31-20 and move on to play the Toronto Argonauts in the East final. No crossover team has ever made it to the Grey Cup but my money is going to be on Saskatchewan for that game. In the West semi-final it was a little closer as the Edmonton Eskimos and Winnipeg Blue Bombers were tied at 10 going into half-time. The turning point came early in the third quarter when Bombers coach Mike O’Shea called for a fake punt that resulted in a loss of two yards, and the Eskimos getting the ball deep in Winnipeg territory. The Eskimos would capitalize on the mistake, scoring a 15-yard touchdown shortly after. Edmonton pulled away but the Bombers made it look respectable with two late TD’s in the fourth quarter to make the final score 39-32. With the win the Eskimos are moving on to face their provincial rival Calgary Stampeders in the West Final. I’m taking the Stamps in this game and hoping for a very dramatic Calgary vs Saskatchewan Grey Cup, with the Stampeders coming out on top.
