The U15AA Marauders have kept their fans on the edge of their seats in round two of the SAAHL playoffs with back-to-back wins in double overtime.
Game one on Thursday, March 17 against the West Central Wheat Kings in Martensville featured Kazden Mathies scoring two of the three goals in regular time. Simon Garchinski contributed with two assists and Cooper Flath added to the score with a goal giving them a 3 – 2 lead. The Wheat Kings weren’t quite ready to give up yet and scored with 16 seconds left on the clock forcing the game into overtime. After 10 minutes of play the game remained a 3-3 tie.Tyson Janzen scored the game winner in double overtime with a pass from Kazden Mathies. Corben Schnurr made 33 saves contributing to the win.
The team travelled to Kindersley on Saturday for game two. Cohen Klassen started the scoring early in the third period and kept the lead until near the end of the game when West Central once again tied the game with 10 seconds left on the clock. It again went to double overtime, when Clarke Goebel scored the winner with an assist from Grady Stoddart-Reis. Manager Chris Mathies stated that goalie Corben Schnurr once again got the win in net, stopping 41 of 42 shots.
The SAAHL North Division Final will feature the Martensville Marauders and the Saskatoon Bandits starting Wednesday, March 23rd in Saskatoon at Rod Hamm arena. Game time is 7:45. Game two will be in Martensville on Saturday, March 26th at 5pm. If needed, game 3 will be on Tuesday, March 29th at Merlis Belsher starting at 8:15pm.
