The MHS girls soccer team coached by Breanne Cooper, came together as a team on Saturday as they travelled to Swift Current for their regional playoffs. They played Caronport in the morning taking a commanding 5-0 lead. The Yuzik sisters, Brodie and Jordie teamed up for three of the points while Cadderly Kingsbury and Emma Winrow popped in singles each. They played Dalemny in the final at 3:30 and clinched the 2-0 win with both goals scored by Jordie Yuzik. The team is hosting provincials here next Saturday.
The boy’s team hosted the regionals last Saturday and clinched a berth to the provincials as well. They beat Poundmaker 4-2 in their first game in a physical match-up. Isaiah Pechawis scored two goals while Brett Driedger and Drew Johnston added one each. In the final, they came up against John Paul II from North Battleford.
The lead changed hands a few times but in the end, JPII secured the 5-4 win. Ian Frattinger, Logan Hradecki, Will Mean and Chris Loughren found the net for the Royals. Both these two teams will advance to Provincials next Saturday in Yorkton. Martensville will face Regina Sheldon Williams on Friday for their first matchup.
