The Martensville High School Royals hosted John Paul II from North Battleford on Thursday, October 6th and ended the game with a win of 36-17.
This win was just what the team needed following a two-game losing streak to the Delisle Rebels and according to Coach Tyler Munday; the win brought the team an increased level of confidence.
There were numerous plays throughout the game that had the hometown crowd cheering, as Caton Harrison saw a successful game running the ball as he rushed for well over 150 yards. Additionally, Jackson Heisler had two rushing scores as well as a 97-yard pass throw to Cam Kliewer for a touchdown in the second half.
Kliewer himself saw a pair of touchdowns during the October 6th game and on Special Teams, they managed to block a punt and a field goal. Munday added that almost everyone on the team had time on the field during the game.
This week marks the final regular season game, which will take place on Friday, October 14th in Humboldt and then next week the Royals will once again take on Humboldt in the 2 vs 3 playoff game to see who will be advancing to the provincial playoffs.
“The location of that game will be determined by the outcome of this Friday’s game. If we win, or lose by less than 23, we will host Humboldt in Martensville on Friday, October 21st. If not, we will travel back to Humboldt to play them,” Munday explained.
Currently, the Royals are dealing with some players who are nicked up, and this week, they are battling through a team sickness that is affecting multiple players; however, Munday noted that last week they were able to rest some players that were in need of it.
“Hopefully we can be as healthy as possible for Friday. Humboldt has improved a lot since we saw them in week one. We’ve got a solid game plan heading into this match-up and feel if we can get healthy and protect the ball, we will have a good shot at hosting the game on the 21st.”
