Rachel Cocks has spent much of her life experiencing the salon industry; therefore her decision to pursue a career within the industry did not come as a shock to anyone that knows her. While in kindergarten, Cocks fondly remembers spending time after school playing with mannequin hair and by the age of 11, her mother Tracy had opened Infinity Salon and Spa and Cocks was spending regular time learning techniques. At 14 years old, Cocks was employed within the tanning salon that was previously located next door to the salon. For the past five years, Cocks has been working as a stylist and has been constantly striving to learn as much as possible about the industry.
Most recently, Cocks was invited to become one of the Canadian educators for the Living Proof hair care line that is carried within Infinity Salon and Spa. “A few years ago, my mom and I were invited to visit Boston where the Living Proof line is developed at MIT in their style lab. That was one of the best experiences of my life because we had the opportunity to see this line that we believe in so much from its beginning stages and meet the people behind it. The thing that I loved so much about that experience was seeing firsthand just how science based this product is,” Cocks said.
At first Cocks admitted that she was skeptical of how well the product would work, as there are so many fantastic products available; however, it didn’t take long for her to change her mind. “Once I started using the product, I had to bite my tongue and take it back. Since then, I have seen so many of my clients have that ‘Ah-Ha’ moment when they realize how well it works with their own hair. Their slogan is ‘we are the science – you are the living proof’, and it is true. Anyone who uses this line is the living proof behind how well it works,” Cocks explained.
Being an educator for the product line has come naturally to Cocks, and the passion that she exudes when speaking about Living Proof is apparent. “It is so easy to believe in this product because when people try it, they love it immediately and there is a reason why it works. I can tell them why it works, show them how well it works and then the rest is up to them. I personally would never recommend a product to someone that I don’t use on myself,” added Cocks. Since becoming an educator, Cocks has travelled to Calgary for training, taken part in conference calls and mirrored fellow educators. For now, Cocks will be doing product knowledge classes within the province, then within six months will begin doing cutting and styling classes. From there, there will be opportunity to travel throughout Canada and the United States to share knowledge about the Living Proof line.
“This opportunity gives me butterflies and the thing about our industry is that it is always changing. Living Proof is on top of the game when it comes to taking care of clients and they are always coming up with incredible new ideas that blow me away each and every time. I am so excited to be a part of this line and to help educate others about all of the amazing products that are available.”
