Nine talented football players from Martensville competed on the U16 Team North Sask this past weekend against Team South Sask in the Prairie Bowl. The two teams will be playing a total of two games against each other and the top players from both teams will be chosen to represent Team Saskatchewan in the U16 Western Canadian Football Tournament in Kamloops this July.
The game was held on Saturday, June 8th at SMF Field in Saskatoon and Team South Sask edged out Team North Sask with a score of 27-20. Following the first quarter, it was 7-0 for North Sask and by halftime, Team North Sask had scored another touchdown bringing the score to 14-0.
By the second half, Team South Sask made it their mission to come out ahead and brought the score a little closer together by the end of the third at 14-6. In the end, the two teams played hard and will be facing each other once again in Regina on Saturday, June 15th at Leibel Field.
Brody Nelson of Martensville was named player of the game for Team North Sask with a total of 20 carries for 185 yards and three touchdowns. Marshall Erichsen was player of the game for Team South Sask with eight carriers for 24 yards, two receptions for 34 yards and two touchdowns.
The winner of the Prairie Bowl will be determined on total points for, so it is anyone’s championship to win.
