Four Martensville Marauders were chosen to play in the Sask First U18 Top 160 Tournament in Regina this past weekend, April 15 – 17.
Mason Engele, Jack Janzen, Tarron Sabadash, and Chase Fraser were the chosen four.
Martensville’s Engele is a 6’1 170 pound athlete who had a total of 22 points in his U15AA career with the Marauders and a total of 76 points in his U18AA seasons (2019-20) and (2021-22) as a Marauder.
Jack Janzen is a 15 year old forward from Martensville who racked up 16 total points in his U15AA Marauder seasons and another 31 points in 2021-22 playing in the U18AA division.
16 year old Sabadash from Dalmeny had a total of 15 points as a defenceman in his U18AA season with the Marauders.
Chase Fraser is a 17 year old forward from Martensville. He has a total of 9 points as a Marauder.
Hockey Saskatchewan, sponsored by the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), welcomed players born in 2004, 2005, and 2006 to this prestigious tournament in Regina.
“We have had many players over the years attend this program and go on to play at a high level after getting noticed at this tournament,” said Joel Houseman, Senior Coordinator of High Performance.
Players hit the ice on Friday, April 1, for team practices and then competed in a round-robin competition with a total of eight teams on Friday, April 15 and continued throughout the weekend with finals on Sunday April 17.
Scouts were in attendance from SMAAAHL, SJHL, and WHL as well.
The Sask First Program has brought accomplishment and great pride since it was introduced in 1988 by Hockey Saskatchewan, and offers a chance for players, coaches, trainers, and officials to have a better understanding of the game, as well as promote their development.
