Football Athletes Get Support Through Nissan Kickoff Project

It is a proven fact that participating in sports at a young age can be extremely beneficial later in life. Children that participate learn an abundance of life skills, make lasting friendships and gain confidence through this participation. Nissan Canada is fully aware of how important this can be to youth, and therefore for the past five years, the company has supported youth football athletes across the country through the Nissan Kickoff Project.

Through this project, they scout for up to 70 high school football athletes – leaders on the field, in the classroom and in the community – to join the 2018 Nissan All-Canadian TITAN team. If selected, these athletes will get the chance of a lifetime to be coached and mentored by CFL football leaders, build life-long relationships with their teammates and be celebrated at the 106th Grey Cup in Edmonton.

Nominations can be submitted at www.nissankickoffproject.ca. Completed nomination forms will then be sent to the parents listed on the nomination for consent, then to the nominee’s coach for validation. Once those steps are complete, nominees will be required to procure a written reference from a teacher or community member, articulating how the nominee embodies the TITAN values in the classroom and in the community. TITAN values embody several qualities including Tough, Innovative, Tenacious, Ambitious and Notable. More information about these values can be found at the Nissan Kickoff Project website.

Take a moment to consider the talented individuals involved with the Martensville Royals football team and consider casting a nomination to provide an opportunity of a lifetime for our local youth.

Shanine Sealey

Shanine Sealey has always had a passion for reading and writing. Growing up with a librarian for a mother, and working in a library as her first job at age 15, that passion continued to grow. After moving to Martensville in 2006 and working at the StarPhoenix for several years, Shanine was given the opportunity to join the team at the Martensville Messenger in 2011. From there, she fell in love with the world of newspapers. In 2014, Shanine and her co-worker Jocelyn Ottenbreit decided to purchase the Martensville Messenger, as they both felt it was an important part of the community and they wanted to continue its legacy within the City. Shanine has had the opportunity to meet so many amazing members of this community because of the Martensville Messenger, which is something that she is extremely grateful for. Her responsibilities include; reporting on local news, weekly production of the newspaper and day to day operations within the business.
