In Martensville, there was much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, with the opening of the Martensville Recreation Centre (MRC) following more than a decade of dreaming of this moment.
This new 145,000 square foot facility will benefit the community for years to come and was made possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of countless individuals. Throughout the years, there has been an endless amount of work being done behind the scenes to make this facility possible, as well as a wide range of fundraising events held to raise funds to ensure the MRC could become a reality.
On Friday, October 11th, the Martensville Recreation Centre hosted an open house where the public was invited to come see the facility and take part in some free programming.
“It was so great to see so many people out this weekend enjoying and seeing the space for the first time. The construction continues to be on track with a planned official grand opening for January 2025,” Mayor Kent Muench stated.
Amenities within the MRC include a regulation-sized ice surface with seven change rooms and a dryland training area, spectator seating for 900, a leisure/practice ice surface, an indoor playground, a wall climbing area, multi-purpose rooms and rooms available to rent, a second-level lounge and viewing area, concession space, over 7,700 square feet of commercial and retail space, an 8,200 square foot lobby which can accommodate activity space and future expansion, reception, office, storage, mechanical and support spaces and more.
Work is still being completed on a portion of the MRC, including the Fieldhouse area, which is scheduled to be open in January of 2025 and will include 61,570 square feet of indoor soccer and turf area and 7,600 square feet of baseball pitching and batting tunnels.
Future plans for the land include the addition of a second and third ice surface, although there is no current schedule in place for this.
