Martensville Youth Connection (MYC) is a drop-in support service that provides the younger generation (age 10 – 16) of Martensville to get involved in the community. Partnered by Possibilities Recovery Centre and Carter’s Counselling Service, it is a safe space for them to go to learn about mental health care, play games, socialize, and volunteer.
The group had a busy summer with many outdoor activities planned such as capture the flag, pickle ball, pizza night, thanks to generous donations of pizza from Boston Pizza, a “Minute to Win It” night and Mario Kart tournaments.
They also take part in helping in the community. Several tasks they did this year were a community clean up, cooking for seniors once a month, and cleaning up at Paws Republic Centre for Pets, who is a sponsor for this organization, where they also learn about the responsibilities of caring for a pet.
Throughout these events, youth also have a chance to learn about addiction and how to deal with conflict and stress.
This organization is made possible through partnerships with local businesses. Programming is all based on community funding and grants, and they are continually looking for donations and partnerships for the program to continue.
One of the fundraisers that is coming up is a Bingo Night on October 2 at the Cork and Kettle in Warman.
