Residents living on the 400 block of 1st Avenue South awoke to a disturbing sight on Saturday, September 30th, as a heavy police force was on scene. RCMP, who were called to the scene at approximately 4am, had the street blocked off as they collected and marked evidence and spoke to numerous witnesses that live in the area. Police received a report of a break and enter to a residence, and investigation has revealed that an adult male entered the home, leading to an altercation between the adult male home owner and the accused before the accused left the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The home owner was then transported to the hospital with what were described as serious, nonlife threatening injuries. An adult female inside the home at the time of the incident and two other adults who were outside the residence were not physically injured.

Police were focusing on a mobile home located in the area, the street in front of it and in an area of the back alley between 1st Avenue South and 2nd Avenue South, where they had evidence markers placed. Dried blood could be seen on the street in front of the home and that morning, a police drone could be seen above the area. As a result of investigation,

As a result of investigation, Martensville RCMP have charged 20-yearold Darian Cote from Martensville in relation to the break and enter investigation from September 30. Cote has been charged with:

  • 1 count, break and enter, section 348(1) (b) of the Criminal Code
  • 1 count, aggravated assault, section 268(2) of the Criminal Code
  • 1 count, disguise with intent, section 351(2) of the Criminal Code
  • 1 count, mischief under $5000, section 434 of the Criminal Code
  • 1 count, fail to comply with undertaking, section 145(5.1) of the Criminal Code

Cote appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Tuesday October 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Cote’s next appearance

Warman/Martensville RCMP believe this is an isolated incident and there should be no concern for safety in their community.

Shanine has had the opportunity to meet so many amazing members of this community because of the Martensville Messenger, which is something that she is extremely grateful for. Her responsibilities include; reporting on local news, weekly production of the newspaper and day to day operations within the business.
