The Martensville Fire Department is celebrating both community involvement and long-standing service, highlighting the dedication of its members on and off the front lines.
The department is proudly supporting Captain Chris Peters as he competes for a spot in this year’s Saskatchewan Firefighters Calendar, an initiative that raises funds for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. The annual calendar has become a popular fundraising effort across the province, with 100 per cent of proceeds going toward supporting children’s health care.
Community members are encouraged to get involved by voting for Peters, with each vote costing $0.50. In addition to casting a vote, residents can help by sharing the campaign online. Donations of $40 or more made online are eligible for a charitable tax receipt through the foundation.
Another member of the local fire department being recognized, although for different reasons, is Captain Bill Symons, who recently reached a significant career milestone. Symons was formally honoured for reaching 20 years of service with the Martensville Fire Department. During a recent presentation, Symons was awarded the Federal 20 Years Exemplary Service Medal, recognizing two decades of dedication, commitment, and service to the community.
The MFD noted that the recognition was well earned after two decades of showing up, putting in the work, and being someone the department can count on.
