Martensville & District Kinsmen Club Working Hard over the Christmas Season to Continue to Help Martensville & Area

by Jocelyn Ottenbreit

The Martensville & District Kinsmen Club recently demonstrated their ongoing commitment to the community by making a generous donation to the Martensville and Warman Food Pantry. This year, they contributed $2,500 to Martensville and Warman, funds raised through bingos held in Saskatoon.

Their contribution will help ensure that local families have access to essential food items during the holiday season. The donation was welcomed with gratitude by the Food Pantry’s volunteers, who emphasized how crucial such support is, especially as demand for food assistance continues to rise in the communities.

Members of the Kinsmen Club expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to give back, and how the community recognizes what they all do to help to strengthen the community. The partnership between the Kinsmen and the Martensville Food Pantry highlights the impact that local organizations can have when working together to address important issues such as food insecurity.

Kinsmen member Arnie Deschner stated, “We’ve had a pretty good year revenue wise from the bingo side and the fundraising side and a couple of meetings ago we said, ‘what can we do? We have this money and what do we do with it’?” “We decided to reach out to the Warman and Martensville food pantry if they needed our help and of course, they said yes.”

The Martensville Food Pantry had 58 requests for Christmas hampers this holiday season, the most they have ever had.
For the fifth year in a row, they arranged an outing for 60 seniors on December 9th, taking them through the Enchanted Forest light show with multiple buses. Afterwards, everyone gathered at the New Horizon Centre to enjoy dainties and cupcakes.

Some ongoing projects coming up for the Kinsmen Club include providing new shelving for the Martensville Library and assisting the Alpyne Apparel fundraiser by shopping for gifts for 20 seniors to brighten their holiday season. Additionally, they have teamed up with the Martensville Chiefs Junior hockey club to manage the bar at every home game.
