Busy Weekend at the Martensville Athletic Pavilion

Shopping-Extravaganza

It was a busy weekend at the Martensville Athletic Pavilion (MAP) as the annual Martensville Shopping Extravaganza was held Saturday, November 25th. This was the first year that the popular event was hosted at the MAP and approximately 500 people attended. A total of 66 vendors were registered, offering something special for everyone on your Christmas shopping list. “Moving the event to the MAP had its advantages for sure. We had a lot more space this year. Based on our evaluation, if we decided to hold it here again next year, we could have up to 80 vendors,” City of Martensville Program Coordinator II, Karly Russin, explained.

An added bonus to hosting the Shopping Extravaganza at the MAP is that there was a “Kids Zone” available to keep shoppers children entertained while they perused the tables. The “Kids Zone” included a bouncy house, toddler toys, balloon twisting and more. “Having this was a huge advantage for the kids of the vendors and the shoppers, allowing parents to spend more time shopping,” said Russin.

The MAP was a hub of activity as the Pita Pit Express location based out of the concession hosted their grand opening celebration the same day. For the grand opening, owner/operator Trisha Girard is donating $1 from every pita sale to the MartePita-Pitnsville Community Recreation Project. The celebration also featured two new pitas including the bacon breakfast pita and the Marauder pita, which Girard was excited to share with the community. The day also featured free face painting for kids from 11am to 1pm.

Since opening on November 14th, Girard noted that there has been an abundance of support from the high school students during lunch

hour; however, things have been slow for evenings and weekends thus far. “Lunch has been really great. The kids are absolutely awesome and are really polite,” Girard stated. Currently, the hours of operation for the Martensville Pita Pit Express location are 11am to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm every day of the week; however, hours may be changing in the future, depending on demand.

Although it is an Express location, Girard offers a variety of pitas that are made fresh to each customer’s preference including a gluten free option as well as delicious smoothies with each containing three servings of fruit. “If there are specific things that people prefer not to include on their pita, we can accommodate that as the pitas are made fresh for each order,” explained Girard.
