Each year, TeleMiracle takes place in Saskatchewan and brings an entire province together to support the 20-hour fundraiser. This year, TeleMiracle 49 will take place on March 1st and 2nd in Saskatoon at Prairieland Park.
Leading up to the event, there is a T-shirt design contest held, where Saskatchewan students can create a t-shirt design to be used for TeleMiracle.
“The t-shirt contest is a way to engage students and get them thinking about TeleMiracle while displaying their creative skills. This is a great opportunity for a whole class to participate, or something you can do at home with your family. For TeleMiracle 49, the students were asked to design a t-shirt that displays Helping Our Community,” Kinsmen Foundation Executive Director Danika Dinko explained.
Approximately 20-30 t-shirt designs are received each year, and this year, the chosen design came from Jayda Reimer, a grade 5 student from Valley Manor Elementary School in Martensville.
On Friday, January 10th, a T-Shirt Reveal Presentation took place at VMS, which included an educational assembly where students learned about TeleMiracle and how they can help, followed by the revealing of the chosen t-shirt design and a mini-interview with the winner.
“I liked the message of supporting one another and the outstretched hands that created a connection between people. It’s what we talk about at the board table during application review- we don’t give a handout but a hand up. When people need us, TeleMiracle is there,” TeleMiracle Chair Terri Troupe-Logue said.
For Dinko, engaging with the youth is an integral part of ensuring TeleMiracle stays relevant within Saskatchewan.
“TeleMiracle is a proud Saskatchewan tradition, and the best way to stay relevant and keep it going is to engage with youth. Youth to perform, youth to fundraise, and youth to grow and volunteer with us. By engaging with the youth, we are ensuring that TeleMiracle continues to help people every day in our province.”
