The Martensville Farmer’s Market had their opening day on Wednesday, May 18th and will be running each Wednesday until mid to late September in the Martensville Corner Store parking lot from 4pm to 8pm with a variety of vendors available.
One vendor that will be on-hand each week is Rave BBQ Rubs, which is owned/operated by Martensville Farmer’s Market Manager Travis Blanchard and offers an array of products to help liven up your summer cooking.
“We are a small batch BBQ spice company that tries to be a little more mindful with our ingredients. We don’t use any M.S.G., preservatives, chemicals or fillers of any kind, all while also bringing the salt content down by about 50% compared to our leading competitors but still having loads of flavor,” Blanchard explained.
There are currently eight different blends available, which include; Lickity Lemon Pepper, Chili Lime, Saskatchewan Steak Spice, Sweet n Smokey Maple, Da Burger Bomb, Chickity Chicken, Dat Sweet Heat and Lasagna Love.
“We were the first company in Canada to offer a product (Saskatchewan Steak Spice) with a food grade activated charcoal that helps bring out a nice bark on briskets that BBQ enthusiasts all seem to love,” added Blanchard.
Blanchard has been running Rave BBQ rubs for the past 1.5 years and is excited to bring his products to the market for the second year. Since inception, Rave BBQ Rubs has acquired over 40 retailers from across Canada and offers country-wide shipping. Recently, the company was a finalist in the New Business of the Year and Business Marketing categories at the Prairie Sky Business Excellence Awards, a distinction that Blanchard does not take lightly. “We may not have won, but it was still an honour to be recognized by the community.”
Initially, Blanchard was a bit skeptical about joining the Farmer’s Market, but that mindset quickly changed. “I love to meet people and be able to tell them about my products and my story personally. The internet has its place, but it is nice to talk to people face to face as well. Once I started getting to know the people, you realize that you’re surrounding yourself with a like-minded community where everyone helps one another. It’s really awesome and a great starting platform to get your products out of your home.”
