The Martensville Library is celebrating another successful summer of reading as it prepares to welcome young creators back for the return of its Crafty Kids program this fall.
Final numbers from the Wheatland Regional Library Reading Cup showed participating Martensville patrons logged an impressive 904,750 reading minutes over the summer.
The Martensville Branch also had 284 children participate in the TD Summer Reading Club, with young readers logging plenty of minutes throughout the summer while taking part in the library’s reading challenges and programming.
The library thanked the families who participated as well as the organizations that helped make its summer programming possible.
Funding and prizes were provided through support from the City of Martensville, Sask Lotteries Community Grant, Affinity Credit Union, Canadian Tire, Geransky Bros. Construction and fundraising efforts by the local library board.
With summer programming wrapped up, the library is now turning its attention to fall and the return of Crafty Kids.
The first session will take place Monday, September 28th from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with participants creating crayon shavings suncatchers.
Designed for children ages eight and older, the program gives participants an opportunity to develop fine motor skills while following step-by-step instructions and working independently with minimal support. Projects involve skills such as cutting and tying knots.
Crafty Kids is offered free of charge, although registration is required. Those interested in participating can register by contacting the Martensville Library at 306-956-7311.
