Aly Jenkins Mixed Doubles Memorial Tournament to Start Next Week at Martensville Curling Club

by Jocelyn Ottenbreit

The first ever Aly Jenkins Mixed Doubles Memorial Tournament is happening next week from September 15 – 19 at the Martensville Curling Club (MCC). The purpose of this event is to help promote the sport of mixed doubles curling with the province, as well as promote the local curling club.

So far there are some big-name teams registered such as Chelsea Carey, Colin Hodgson, Lisa Weagle, John Epping, David Nedohin and Jim Cotter.

Some of the local teams who will be representing Saskatchewan previously in team play are; Nancy Martin, Ryan Dies, Ashley Quick, Mike Armstrong, Chaelynn Kitz, Jolene Campbell, Brady Scharback, Michelle Englot, Rylan Kleiter, Steve Laycock, Patty Hersikorn, and Catlin Schneider.

Three local Junior curlers will also be partaking in this first of its kind tournament; Melissa Remeshylo, Dylan Derksen, and Brayden Grindheim.

What makes this event possible is a partnership between Curling Canada, Curling Zone and title sponsor First Nations Capital & Infrastructure Agency of Saskatchewan. Additionally, SaskTel will be contributing by helping support the installation of cameras within the facility so all games can be live streamed. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go towards the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.

More information about this event can be found on the ‘Aly Jenkins Mixed Doubles Memorial’ page on Facebook, or by emailing alyjenkinsmemorial@gmail.com.
