Martensville Food Pantry will be discussing several items at its annual general meeting on Thursday, October 22nd at 1 pm at the Civic Centre Room 2.
According to MFP Chair Linda Ward, the pantry has recently had an increase in demand to meet ongoing local food-assistance needs, and increased hamper requests. The pantry has more than 15 volunteers but is not recruiting at this time.
The pantry’s latest Thanksgiving effort reflects growing demand for the program.
Volunteers prepared 54 Thanksgiving dinner hampers, a reported 30 per cent increase from last year.
Ward said the pantry welcomes donations but needs additional financial support as food costs and hamper requests rise.
For Christmas dinner hampers, the pantry will once again collect non-perishable food, turkeys, hams and other items.
MFP Vice-Chair Tara Wagner expressed gratitude for Martensville Co-op’s continued support. Pantry representatives will meet with Co-op on Thursday to receive funds donated through Fuel Good Day that took place on Tuesday, September 15th where Martensville Co-op gas bar donated a minimum of 5 cents from every litre of fuel to Martensville Food Pantry.
Ward also thanked the community for its ongoing support, including the recent Cram the Cruiser event at the Co-op grocery store.
As Christmas preparations begin and requests for assistance rise, Martensville Food Pantry relies on food donations, financial contributions and volunteers to help neighbours access essential supplies.
