Families in Martensville now have greater access to licensed childcare following the opening of the BGC Martensville Early Learning Centre inside the Martensville Recreation Centre.
Operated by BGC Saskatoon, the new facility was created to help address the growing demand for childcare spaces in the community while providing families with a convenient option located within one of the city’s major recreation and community hubs.
The centre has the capacity to provide 90 licensed childcare spaces for children ranging in age from six weeks to six years old, offering full-day programming during weekdays from 7:00am to 6:00pm.
Martensville has experienced steady population growth in recent years, increasing the demand for accessible childcare services for local families. The addition of the Early Learning Centre is expected to help reduce wait times and expand childcare availability in the city.
The project was approved by Martensville City Council following a discretionary use application and public hearing in 2025, paving the way for the program to operate within the Martensville Recreation Centre.
The centre operates under BGC Saskatoon, a non-profit organization that has provided programs and services to children and youth in the region for more than 50 years.
Programming at the Early Learning Centre follows Saskatchewan’s Play and Exploration curriculum, which focuses on play-based learning and development. The approach encourages children to build independence, curiosity, and social skills while learning through guided activities and exploration.
The facility is staffed by a team of early childhood educators, nutrition specialists, and program staff who work together to provide a supportive learning environment for young children.
In addition to increasing childcare access, the centre also brings new employment opportunities to Martensville. The facility is expected to employ 22 full-time staff members, along with additional part-time and casual positions.
The creation of the childcare spaces was supported through the Canada-Saskatchewan Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement, a provincial and federal initiative aimed at expanding regulated childcare options and reducing costs for families
With its location inside the Martensville Recreation Centre, the new Early Learning Centre is designed to become an important resource for local families, offering accessible childcare while also contributing to the city’s growing network of family-focused programs and services.
