The New Year has brought in some new hot streaks in the NHL, mainly the Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche who are both currently on a seven game win streak. In the midst of their win streak the Flames even knocked off the league’s top team the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1 in Tampa. They have outscored their opponents 27-14 and have jumped up into second place in the Pacific Division behind the Vegas Golden Knights. The Avalanche are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and have outscored their opponents 29-10 over the past seven game win streak. This push by the Avalanche has been led by Nathan MacKinnon who now sits tied for 4th in the points in the NHL. The Flames have been led by Johnny Gaudreau who is tied for second in league points with 54, including 13 points in the last seven games, earning him the NHL’s First Star of the Week. Calgary’s goalie Mike Smith was awarded the NHL’s Second Star of the Week after posting a 3-0-0 record and a .963 save percentage last week.

The NFL Playoffs are heading into the Division Championships after a thrilling weekend. The Philadelphia Eagles edged out the Atlanta Falcons 15-10 on Saturday, and the New England Patriots rolled to a 35-14 win over the Tennessee Titans. Sunday’s games were a little closer as the Jaguars and Steelers combined for 38 points in the 4th quarter. Pittsburgh’s 21 points just weren’t enough as Jacksonville moved on with a 45-42 win in Pittsburgh. The Minnesota Vikings kept their chance at home field advantage in the Super Bowl alive when a final play 61 yard touchdown to Stefon Diggs took the Vikings past the New Orleans Saints 29-24. Minnesota takes on Philly this weekend with a ticket to the Super Bowl on the line. New England will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend with the winner moving on to the Super Bowl in two weeks.
