The final week of the CFL did not mean a whole lot to teams as almost all of the teams rested their starters for the post-season. The stage is now set for Playoffs though as the Riders are crossing over to face Ottawa in the East Semi-final with the winner moving on to the East Final against the Toronto Argonauts. In the West it’s the Edmonton Eskimos heading to Winnipeg to play the Bombers with the winner moving on to battle the first place Stampeders in the West Final. My picks went 50-28-1 on the season and i am very pleased with that result. My 2017 Grey Cup bracket has Edmonton beating the Bombers and Saskatchewan beating the RedBlacks in the East. In the Conference Finals the Riders will move on to the Grey Cup where they will play the Calgary Stampeders. My pick as the 2017 Grey Cup Champions are the Calgary Stampeders.
In the MLB the Houston Astros are World Series Champions for the first time in franchise history. The Astros got to Dodgers starter Yu Darvish early in Game 7. They scored 5 runs in the first two innings and never looked back, on route to a 5-1 victory to take the Championship. Houston outfielder George Springer was awarded Word Series MVP after smacking 5 home runs in the 7-Game series.
In the NHL the deal is finally done. After over 2 years of trade talks, Matt Duchene is on his way out of Colorado. The trade involved three teams as Colorado sent Duchene to the Ottawa Senators, the Sens sent young talent Kyle Turris to Nashville and the Avalanche received 1st and 3rd round picks as well as goaltender Andrew Hammond and a prospect from Ottawa. Colorado also received a second round pick and two prospects from the Predators. The trade give the Av’s high hopes for the future and also gives Ottawa and Nashville young, talented, long term forwards. It will be interesting to see how the players fit in their new teams.
