Saskatchewan singer-songwriter Jeffery Straker to perform live from his living room
A local builder is hoping to end next week on a high note, by sponsoring a virtual concert performed by Jeffery Straker, a Saskatchewan singer-songwriter. The concert, live from Straker’s living room will stream from the musician’s Facebook page on Friday, May 1 at 7pm CST.
“We know most people are cooped up at home right now, and we wanted to do something positive to add a bit of levity and help end the week on a high note,” said Josh Remai, owner of Span West Building Corporation, the company providing the sponsorship. “Jeffery’s music is upbeat and positive, which is just what we need right now.”
Span West is the builder behind Martensville’s Aspen Pointe Estates condominium on Beaudry Crescent.
Like many musicians, Straker’s spring touring has been put on hold. “I’m typically on the road touring over 100 shows a year, but with the world in isolation, performances have taken on a new shape these days,” he says. “I’ve done a few of these online concerts so far and I’ve really enjoyed them. It’s just me at my piano in my living room, singing my songs into my iPhone and the wonders of technology lets people situated literally anywhere, tune in. They can type comments to me and to each other, while watching in their sweatpants and drinking their favourite drink. It’s really casual and a really great way to pass some time while supporting live music.”
In addition to the concert sponsorship, Span West is also redirecting most of its spring advertising budget to local charities, such as Saskatoon’s Crisis Nursery.
