On October 27th at approximately 4 am, a member of the Rosthern RCMP Detachment noticed a black car that was pulled over on the side of Highway 11 near Osler. The vehicle did not have any lights on. From there, the RCMP member pulled their vehicle over and activated their emergency equipment. According to a media release from the RCMP, the driver of the vehicle then exited the vehicle and shot at the RCMP member before getting back inside the vehicle and fleeing towards Saskatoon on Highway 11. This resulted in the member discharging their firearm.
The member was not injured in the incident, and a short pursuit took place. Saskatoon Police Service was notified of the occurrence and has been working with RCMP in the investigation. Following the incident, both southbound lanes of Highway 11 near Osler were blocked for an investigation.
The lone occupant is described as a six foot tall black male with a slim build and high cheekbones. On Monday, October 30th, police issued a composite sketch of the suspect. This male should not be approached. The car is described as a black Cadillac CTS with no license plate. The public should not approach vehicles matching the description above and report any information they have to police immediately. The black Cadillac CTS has not been located. RCMP Major Crime Unit North continues to investigate with the assistance of Rosthern RCMP, RCMP General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Section and Saskatoon Police Service. Saskatchewan RCMP sent out a notice requesting the public’s assistance in locating the suspect and/or the suspect vehicle involved in the incident. “Public safety is our number one priority and the individual(s) inside the black Cadillac CTS are armed and considered dangerous. This vehicle has not been located. Although the vehicle fled towards Saskatoon, it is not known if it is in Saskatoon at this time. Do not approach any vehicles matching this description or its occupant(s). Please report any vehicles matching this description to police immediately: call 911 in an emergency or call your police service of jurisdiction,” RCMP stated in a news release.
In addition, investigators were looking to speak with any members of the public that were travelling on Highway 11 in either direction between Rosthern and Saskatoon on October 27 between 3 am and 5 am who may have information relating to the investigation. Anyone who was travelling on Highway #11 during this time period and has information to share with police is asked to please call 310-RCMP.
