Great Plains College Awards Over $231,000 at Fall Scholarship Receptions

by Great Plains College
Great Plains College has awarded over $231,000 in scholarships, bursaries, and awards to 155 students this fall, providing vital support for post-secondary education across the region.
More than $80,000 in awards was distributed across the Maple Creek, Martensville, Kindersley, and Warman campuses, including $10,000 in International Student Awards specifically for second-year diploma students at the Warman Campus. In addition, eleven Adult Basic Education Persistence Awards will be presented to students in Kindersley, Martensville and Maple Creek this December, including three Living Sky Casino Indigenous Adult Basic Education awards.
“Financial barriers can be overwhelming, and scholarships help remove those obstacles so students can focus on learning and achieving their goals. We’re proud to have invested nearly $2.5 million in scholarships and awards over the years, ensuring thousands of students have the support they need to succeed,” Brad Mahon, president and CEO of Great Plains College, noted.
Two new bursaries were also introduced this year: the Barbara Lindsay Practical Nursing Bursary, which will provide two $2,500 awards annually, and the Great Plains College Board Bursary, which will award a minimum of one $500 bursary each year. Additional scholarships totaling an estimated $40,000 will be awarded during the winter semester, including $19,500 to Practical Nursing students in Biggar.
These awards reflect the strength of local communities, with donors playing a key role in ensuring students have the support they need to succeed. With National Philanthropy Day approaching on November 15, the college extended its thanks to all contributors who continue to invest in student futures. Applications for the 2025-26 academic year are open, and students are automatically considered for Entrance Scholarships ranging from $500 to $3,000 when applying to full-time, student loan-eligible programs before April 30, 2026.
