Community Support Helps Walk for Dog Guides Raise More Than $27,000

by Shanine Sealey

The Martensville & District Lions Club is celebrating another successful year for the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides, thanks to the overwhelming support of residents, businesses and volunteers throughout the region.
The 2026 Martensville and District – SK Walk for Dog Guides “WALK WITH DOUG” raised a total of $27,102.65, helping provide specially trained Dog Guides to Canadians in need. The funds raised also secured the Martensville & District Lions Club Walk the distinction of being the top fundraising Walk for Dog Guides event in Western Canada and fifth overall across the country for the second consecutive year.
Lion Maria Fowler, Chairperson of the Martensville & District Lions Club Walk for Dog Guides, expressed the Club’s gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event’s success.
“Hats off to all the citizens and businesses of Martensville, Warman and Saskatoon for your combined effort in making the 2026 Martensville & District Saskatchewan Walk for Dog Guides such a great success,” Fowler said.
The event attracted approximately 150 participants and 40 dogs, with walkers collecting pledges and community businesses contributing raffle prizes and financial donations. Organizers also thanked attendees for bringing their four-legged companions to the event, which included special pup cup treats for participating dogs.
The Lions Club extends their heartfelt appreciation to the many businesses that supported the fundraiser, noting that numerous organizations stepped forward with donations and prizes to help make the event possible.
In addition to recognizing sponsors and participants, the Lions Club acknowledged the efforts of volunteers from the Martensville & District Lions Club, Saskatoon Lions Club and Pet Valu locations in Martensville, Warman and Market Mall. Fowler noted that countless volunteer hours were invested behind the scenes leading up to the event.
Funds raised through the Walk for Dog Guides support the Lions Foundation of Canada’s Dog Guides program, which provides service dogs at no cost to Canadians living with medical and physical disabilities, and funds raised recently purchased a Special Service Dog for an individual in need.
Although the walk has concluded, those wishing to contribute can still make donations online through the Walk for Dog Guides website until June 30th.
The Lions Club thanked the community for its continued generosity and support and is already looking forward to welcoming participants back for next year’s event.
