With the Main Street overpass now open to traffic both northbound and southbound, as well as Range Road 384 accessible now, motorists are now entering and exiting the city with ease. Peter Kiewit Sons ULC, the company in charge of both the Highway 11 and 12 interchanges, is pleased with the progress that both projects have seen. “This marks another big milestone for the project team as there is now live traffic on both of the new bridges,” Dawson Christie, Field Engineer for Kiewit, stated in an update.
Traffic was opened to northbound traffic entering Martensville at the Main Street location, as the 4th Street South entrance has been temporarily closed to traffic in order to complete the final configuration. “Kiewit and our partners are working hard to minimize disruptions to the public as construction processes and appreciate everyone’s patience,” Christie added.
With the project moving along at a rapid pace, City of Martensville officials are pleased with the progress that has been taking place. “This project has been extremely well received and we are very excited for it to be open and improve the safety component of access to and from the city. They have been working on it extremely efficiently and when you see it open, it is such a noticeable improvement for accessibility to our community. It is a huge change, and not only does it make the community look different because of the physical presence of it, but just the ability to safely cross the highway is so worth it,” Mayor Kent Muench stated.
“I am very pleased with the progress on the interchange project. The contractors have been making every effort to minimize traffic disruptions while completing construction safely and quickly. The interchange will improve safety for residents and visitors to Martensville, and is just one more example of the growth of our vibrant community,” Matt Gruza, City of Martensville Director of Infrastructure and Planning explained.
The status of the overall Warman and Martensville Interchanges Project is approximately 85% complete.
Warman:
• Remaining work in 2018 is focused on the new Hwy 11 southbound highway lanes and the new Hwy 11 southbound highway ramps
o Completion of the southbound highway lanes in 2018 is weather dependent, but paving has commenced
o Should this work get completed, motorists will be transferred to the new southbound Hwy 11 infrastructure for the winter
• Various peripheral work is being reviewed for whether or not weather will allow for construction this season
o Improvements to the intersection of Central Street / Ferry Road and existing highway 11 lanes
o Improvements to the intersection of Hwy 305 and the pre-existing highway 11 lanes
o Completion of paving at the eastern limits of the Warman Interchange, connecting the Project with Ferry Road
• Other Activities
o Landscaping of old highway lanes
o Topsoil Placement
o Seeding
o Line Painting
o Sign Installation
o Rumble Strips
Martensville:
• Remaining work in 2018 is focused on the south end of the Project, in the northbound highway 12 lanes and northbound highway 12 off-ramp
o Currently all motorists are being routed to Main Street when taking the northbound highway 12 off-ramp
This will remain in effect until the 4th Street permanent connection is made
4th Street was initially constructed and opened with some temporary roadway construction earlier in 2018 to advance other parts of the Martensville Project
Efforts are underway to get 4th Street completed and re-opened by the end of the 2018 Construction Season, this is weather dependent
o In addition, efforts are underway to finish construction of the slow lane (driving lane) at the south tie-in so that motorists will no longer be required to shift to one lane when heading northbound through Martensville
o There is minor work remaining on the Bridge Structure, motorists can expect intermittent lane closures on Highway 12 through the end of the 2018 construction season
• Other Activities
o Landscaping of old highway lanes
o Topsoil Placement
o Seeding
o Line Painting
o Sign Installation
o Rumble Strips
