The Kyle Syrenne Skate Park is taking shape as October’s completion date draws near. Concrete structures are visible as construction workers efficiently move along the project. Thus far the construction phase is on schedule thanks to the cooperating July weather. Dave Bosch, Recreation Director for the City of Martensville, stated that the project may even be completed in early October, sooner than predicted. As of right now, there is no definite timeline on when the main concrete slab areas will be poured. The Skate Park project had costs of just over $750,000.
The park was funded through the work of the Kyle Syrenne fundraising committee, the City of Martensville, and various local donors. Sponsors for the project will be acknowledged through various means, such as skate park benches, paving stones and a sponsorship wall that will be located on the north side of the park along 3rd Street North. Anyone interested in donating or sponsoring this project can contact Dave Bosch or Dillon Shewchuk at Martensville City Hall – (306) 931-2166, or visit the Kyle Syrenne Skate Park funding page at www.youcaring.com/memorial-fundraiser/kylesyrenne-skate-park/313727.
Once completed, the skate park will be anticipating some expansion next construction season as there are hopes to implement an asphalt pump track between the completed park and the body of water in Kinsmen Park. The asphalt pump track will be the only of its kind in Saskatchewan, and will accommodate all wheels including scooters, BMX bikes, inline skates, and skateboards.
