The Tokyo 2020 Olympics are currently taking place, having officially begun on July 23 and running until the closing ceremonies on August 8. A total of 339 events across 33 sports will take place throughout the two-week event.
Canada has 370 athletes representing their country, with seven of them coming from Saskatchewan roots.
Rylan Wiens, a diver from Pike Lake, has much love coming from his hometown province, as anyone who visits ‘The Huddle’ at Pike Lake can see. There, you can find a small shrine set up for Wiens with photos, news articles and a Canadian flag for all to share messages of encouragement on.
Wiens has been a member of the Saskatoon Diving Club since the age of six, and therefore is no stranger to competitive diving. The 19-year-old secured his spot in the Olympics on Canada Day after he finished second at the Canadian Diving Trials.
Be sure to cheer Wiens on as he takes the 10-meter diving board at the Tokyo Aquatic Centre on August 6 and 7.
