New Grocery Store Available to Local Residents

written by Shanine Sealey January 9, 2020

Residents of Warman, Martensville and the surrounding region now have a new grocery store option to shop at. On Friday, December 6th, Buy-Low Foods officially opened the doors to their newest location in Warman.

Originally founded as a single store in 1966 in British Columbia, Buy-Low Foods is currently a Western Canadian owned and operated retailer with 62 corporate and franchise independent stores in urban, suburban and rural communities throughout BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan, consisting of Buy-Low Foods, AG Foods, Choices Markets, Nature’s Fare Markets, Nesters Market and Meinhardt’s Fine Foods.

The chain’s main goal is to deliver low food prices and be a valued leader within the communities that they serve, while making a commitment to providing quality product and a focus on customer service. “When customers visit a Buy-Low Foods location, they will find fresh quality produce and fine cuts of meat on a daily basis, value for their dollar with our Every Day Every Week low prices and service an industry leading selection of products that meet the community’s needs. We strive to provide our customers with a clean and well maintained store with friendly people who are committed to providing great service and who take pride in their continued support of the community,” Store Manager, Colin Labrecque, said.

Each month, the real estate department within the chain reviews new development opportunities, and Warman was an appealing location for a new store. “Warman is a growing community, with a supportive developer, town Council and enthusiastic customers. The site location had all the things we were looking at that allowed us to put the right combination of goods and services together for the community,” Labrecque stated.

This group of stores currently employs 3000 retail employees throughout their locations, with 63 local residents employed at the Warman location. “BLF’s neighborhood stores have strong roots in their communities, each format with its own unique styling and offering,” added Labrecque.

In addition, through the Associated Grocers and Van-Whole Produce Wholesale Divisions, Buy-Low also acts as a grocery wholesale supplier to hundreds of independent retailers across BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Labrecque explained that Buy-Low is “A proud supplier to individual stores, small regional chains and particularly our group of sponsored AG Foods locations. We are proudly known as the Home of the Independent.” According to Labrecque, “We pride ourselves on our ability to give back to our community by supporting events and activities in the communities we serve. We are determined to get involved and give back to our neighbors, friends and customers through organizations they care about. All of our locations are proud of their community involvement, participation in local events, and sponsorship of community activities, especially those that are focused on children.”

The new Warman location can be found at 930 Centennial Blvd and is open 7 days a week from 8am-9pm.

Shanine Sealey has always had a passion for reading and writing. Growing up with a librarian for a mother, and working in a library as her first job at age 15, that passion continued to grow. After moving to Martensville in 2006 and working at the StarPhoenix for several years, Shanine was given the opportunity to join the team at the Martensville Messenger in 2011. From there, she fell in love with the world of newspapers. In 2014, Shanine and her co-worker Jocelyn Ottenbreit decided to purchase the Martensville Messenger, as they both felt it was an important part of the community and they wanted to continue its legacy within the City. Shanine has had the opportunity to meet so many amazing members of this community because of the Martensville Messenger, which is something that she is extremely grateful for. Her responsibilities include; reporting on local news, weekly production of the newspaper and day to day operations within the business.
