The City of Martensville continues toward the development of a multi-purpose facility with an initial goal of establishing a second ice surface. The recent completion of a Recreation Facility Master Plan has helped define features of a new proposed multi-purpose facility.

In the development of the Recreation Facility Master Plan and an eventual project, the City of Martensville has been working with the community and users through volunteer groups such as the Martensville Community Recreational Project (MCRP). The MCRP has been a valuable partner and catalyst for further facility development in Martensville and have been key toward the development of the Recreation Facility Master Plan through ongoing participation and engagement.

The City alongside community user groups are pursuing a new multi-purpose facility to create new opportunities for the community but primarily a new facility will address the shortage of space and availability for the growing registration numbers across programs such as Minor Hockey, CanSkate, and Minor Soccer. There are opportunities to develop or expand into additional programs such as youth and adult recreational hockey, adult competitive hockey, additional or fixed public skating times, female hockey, indoor soccer and lacrosse.

In addition to the new opportunities for recreation and current user groups a new multi-purpose facility will bring additional economic spinoffs for Martensville. Minor Sport will have the capacity to hold tournaments with the addition of another ice surface in the community, as well as have space available for sport camps to further skill development. The multi-purpose facility as a year-round venue, with a variety of uses, will not only help serve the community but also the region with the potential to serve and cooperate with Saskatoon user groups. A new multi-purpose facility will serve as an additional focal point for the community attracting new commercial opportunities as well as enhancing attractiveness for residential developments.

The concept for the new multi-purpose facility will focus around a new main, single ice surface with a leisure ice surface. Early concepts have bleacher seating for up to 1200. Additional support spaces such as concession, skate services and indoor play and flex spaces are also part of the initial concept. Overall design will include the ability to stage or phase in future amenities. The location for a new multi-purpose facility has not been determined but several potential locations are being further examined in respect to feasibility, considering location factors, site constraints and serving costs.
Funding for the development of a multi-purpose facility has commenced and has been ongoing for several years. The Martensville Community Recreation Project Committee was formed in 2015 with a goal of seeing a new multi-purpose sports facility for the community. They recently donated $150,000 toward the project and continue to fundraise and carry out volunteer activities. The City of Martensville has included recreation levies the last two budgets to also capitalize the future project. Timing and complete scope of the project will be contingent on additional factors such as Provincial and Federal funding as well as sponsorship and donation opportunities.
