MHS Royals Host Annual Awards Banquet

by Shanine Sealey

The Martensville High School Royals held their annual Awards Banquet Thursday, November 30th. The well attended event was held in the MHS Theatre and the incredible meal was catered by the Commercial Cooking Class.

The evening focused on the past season, highlighting the growth that players saw throughout that time. Coach Lyle Evanisky was proud of the way the team performed despite being such a young group. “The majority of the team was coming in as new players, and we were not anticipating that we would make provincials, but the team worked together and pushed hard and we managed to surprise ourselves,” Evanisky said, noting that they were already looking forward to see what next season would bring.

Evanisky began the evening by introducing the coaches for the 2017 MHS Royals, followed by an introduction of the support staff that contributed this season. From there, each of the players were invited down for their introduction.

Once the introductions were complete the coaches began the awards portion of the evening, with awards being presented to:

Special Teams Player of the Year, sponsored by Martensville Dollar Store: Colten Adair

After the awards were presented, a group of players were invited down to help present gifts to each of the parent volunteers that put in countless hours of their time to help things run smoothly throughout the season. Evanisky also took a moment to thank Team Manager Della Muench for all of her hard work, noting that they “couldn’t do it without her”. Evanisky also made special mention to Josh Hamoline for all of his dedication to the team this past season.

The final presentation came from the players to their coaches, thanking each of them for their patience working with the young team this past year. The 2017 coaching staff consisted of: Lyle Evanisky, Jack Kobussen, Shane Garner, Shayne Hayward, Reid Lambden, Aaron Osczevski, Vince Riley and Myles Loeffler.
