Mental Health Support a Priority For Prairie Spirit School Division

by Shanine Sealey

This month, Prairie Spirit School Division announced a new addition to help support students and families during these difficult and ever-changing times.

PSSD will now have a Virtual Mental Health Counsellor available Monday to Friday during school hours until June 29, by appointment. This will be in addition to the school-based counsellors available at each of the PSSD schools.

These virtual supports can include topics such as general consultation and inquiries accessing resources, and/or short-term counselling for registered PSSD students.

This option is available via telephone or videoconferencing, and will mainly focus on issues impacting students throughout their school day.

“When the needs of a student are deemed to require longer term counselling, or involve issues not impacting the student at school, the Virtual Mental Health Counsellor will work with the student and their family to access community mental health services,” PSSD explained via social media.

Appointments can be made by calling or texting (306)371-4214 or emailing virtualMH@spiritsd.ca.
