For the second year in a row, Martensville High School (MHS) Grade 12 graduates are unable to celebrate as they normally would at this time due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
At the June 8 Committee of the Whole meeting, Martensville City Council was asked to approve a request from the MHS Grad Parent Committee to help with celebrations planned for later this month.
One of the requests is for a donation of $1500 to be used towards a fireworks display on the evening before their Grad celebration, Thursday, June 24. The Grad Parent Committee are also asking for council’s approval to allow a parade showcasing the Class of 2021 on graduation day Friday, June 25.
The same request was made for the 2020 Graduating class and was approved by Martensville City Council. When discussing this year’s request at the Committee of the Whole meeting, councillors seemed in favour, as money is in the city’s 2021 budget, and they felt it was important to help publicly acknowledge the achievements of the graduates. A final decision was made at the June 15 Regular Council meeting, with Council voting in favor of the request.
