Martensville & District Kinsmen Celebrate 30 Years and $1 Million Raised

written by Shanine Sealey February 27, 2019

The Martensville Messenger would like to take a moment to congratulate the Martensville & District Kinsmen Club (MKC) on their incredible 30 years of service and $1 million given back to the communities that they serve.

The Kinsmen Club celebrated this amazing accomplishment by hosting an event on Friday, February 22nd in the Kin Room at the Martensville Sports Centre. The evening began with a delicious meal prepared by one of the founding members of our local Kinsmen Club; Steve Smith. Smith has been a devoted member of the group since its inception 30 years ago when him and four other local residents decided that the community could benefit from the addition of a Kinsmen Club. Because of this decision and the dedication that came with it, Martensville and other surrounding communities have seen enormous support from the Kinsmen Club and have been treated to numerous events held by the Kinsmen Club in order to raise money for TeleMiracle.

Following dinner, a program was organized by MKC Secretary James Dietrich, who took some time to honour Smith and other members that have been involved  for a large number of years. Other speakers were invited up to discuss the impact the Kinsmen Club has had on the community, and reminisce about the past 30 years of supporting Martensville and the surrounding area.

“There were many great stories, a lot of laughs and possible a tear or two shed. All in all this evening was made possible by all hands on deck by our club and the never ending support from the community and surrounding area. Thank you all from the Martensville and District Kinsmen Club! Serving the communities greatest needs for 30 years with over $1 million given back,” the club stated on their Facebook page – ‘Martensville & District Kinsmen’.

Shanine Sealey

Shanine Sealey has always had a passion for reading and writing. Growing up with a librarian for a mother, and working in a library as her first job at age 15, that passion continued to grow. After moving to Martensville in 2006 and working at the StarPhoenix for several years, Shanine was given the opportunity to join the team at the Martensville Messenger in 2011. From there, she fell in love with the world of newspapers. In 2014, Shanine and her co-worker Jocelyn Ottenbreit decided to purchase the Martensville Messenger, as they both felt it was an important part of the community and they wanted to continue its legacy within the City. Shanine has had the opportunity to meet so many amazing members of this community because of the Martensville Messenger, which is something that she is extremely grateful for. Her responsibilities include; reporting on local news, weekly production of the newspaper and day to day operations within the business.
