Martensville’s newest art addition has been officially installed in Kinsmen Park as of Tuesday, August 7th. An art installation by Saskatchewan sculpter Kevin Quinlan called “Paddle Your Own Canoe” will now call the location home for a minimum of three years through a lease agreement that was approved at the May 15th, 2018 City Council meeting.
The lease agreement is for $1500 each year, with the option to have funds go towards the purchase of the sculpture. The City of Martensville was also required to cover the $500 cost of transporting the sculpture, as well as an additional $1800 for the concrete base. At the end of the lease period, the City will have the option to renew for lease. The total cost of the sculpture is $25,000.
The 12-foot-long sculpture depicts a life size person paddling in a canoe and is located near the walking paths behind the Kyle Syrenne Skate Park.
