Due to COVID restrictions this year, the City of Martensville was unable to host their typical Winter FunFest celebration. Instead, they got creative and held a ‘Winter Wonderland’ event instead, which ran from January through March. This event was possible thanks to the Community Initiative Fund.
Events offered throughout the winter months of 2021 included cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, tobogganing, ice carving and more. One final event that brought some community fun to Martensville was the Spring Fireworks, which took place Saturday, March 27th at Kinsmen Park.
Jamie McCulloch, Recreation Program Coordinator II, said that this marked the end of this year’s Winter Wonderland as well as spring’s arrival. The event was very well received and many families could be seen watching the beautiful display of fireworks from all areas within Martensville’s Kinsmen Park.
“As of now this was a onetime event, but with so many unknowns for the future in terms of large community events, it is possible we would run it again next year,” said McCulloch.
