Cutting Hair For a Cause

by Shanine Sealey

On Saturday, November 2nd, members of the Paws Republic Boarding, Training & Grooming Centre staff had some fun after raising money for a great cause. Conrad Keller of Paws Republic selflessly volunteered himself as an incentive to have people donate money that will go to SCAT Street Cat Rescue in Saskatoon. SCAT is a charitable organization that is set in place to rescue homeless cats and kittens off the streets of Saskatoon and surrounding areas.

Keller, who has been growing his hair out for the past three years, and has not shaved his beard in five years, decided to encourage some donations by offering to shave both his head and face through the fundraiser. If they were able to raise $200, then Keller would shave his beard. If $400 was raised, then both the hair and beard would be shaved, and if over $500 came in through donations, there would be a draw with everyone that donated included and the winner would get to choose Keller’s new haircut.

A total of $539 was donated and therefor Keller’s new do was chosen for him. The chosen style was a Viking inspired look and a clean shaven face.

Although there were some nerves at first, Keller was a great sport and was more than happy to do it for a great cause. “Thank you to everyone that was willing to donate for SCAT. It’s a wonderful organization that we have been working with for years and I honestly cannot thank you enough.”

In addition to raising money for SCAT, Keller’s long locks will be donated to 360 Hair, an organization that provides wigs for cancer patients.
