The community of Martensville has stepped up once again to help out a local family in need. In a fundraiser organized by the Martensville Initiation Sharks, which took place Thursday, January 2nd, a huge amount of bottles were collected throughout the community, with all funds going to the Kortmeyer family, whose son is a member of the team.

Bobby Kortmeyer, a Martensville resident and father of four, was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and the team wanted to step up and help the family out as Bobby undergoes chemotherapy and is unable to work.

“Thank you, not just for the donations, but for the support and good job coming together and gaining this success,” Kortmeyer said regarding the massive outpouring of support shown throughout this fundraiser.

In total, two trailers of bottles were collected and through the Sarcan Drop & Go program throughout the province, bottles can still be donated by entering the phrase ‘martensville initiation sharks’. “We will keep it open until the end of the month, so please spread the word. Thank you everyone for all your support so far,” one of the organizers of the fundraiser, Chantelle Higgins, noted on social media.

A GoFundMe page was created to help the family through this difficult time as well, with a goal of raising $30,000. This page can be found by searching ‘GoFundMe Bobby Kortmeyer’, or by visiting https://www.gofundme.com/f/e4tyn-hodgkin-lymphoma?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet.
